Congratulations to Clayton High School DECA for being chosen as North Carolina DECA’s December Chapter of the Month! This is Clayton High School’s third year having a DECA Chapter, and it is their third time being North Carolina DECA’s Chapter of the Month!
DECA members from last year made signs to recruit new members. Several members created a recruitment bulletin board, which said: “DECA Best in Show: Get Your Ticket Now.” Recruitment efforts paid off with Clayton High School DECA’s current enrollment at 62 members.
In September members who paid early DECA dues were invited to an after school ice cream party. Clayton High School DECA also held their first after school chapter meeting to discuss upcoming DECA dates, community service and fundraising ideas.
In October, Clayton High School DECA kicked off DECA week with an afterschool meeting with guest speaker, Cornucopia Vice President, Tripp Bartholomew. Tripp explained the opportunities that DECA has for members. Members also enjoyed networking and pizza. Local officers attended the State Leadership Conference and came back with many ideas for the upcoming year. During DECA Week, Clayton DECA participated in their annual DECA Spirit Week. Monday was Dress to Impress, Tuesday was Favorite Sports Team Day, Wednesday was Burger King Day, Thursday was Rock Star/ Music Fan Day, and Friday was Blue and Gold Day. To promote our organization during the week, members hid DECA diamonds throughout the school. Any student who found a diamond was rewarded a special treat. All paid DECA members also received DECA cups filled with DECA treats and Rock Star goodies. On Friday of DECA Week, Clayton High School DECA ended the week with their 2008-2009 DECA Members and Officers Induction Ceremony held at Lonestar Steakhouse.
Clayton High School DECA has actively been working to continue their efforts to educate our community about teen driver safety. The recently founded Project Ignition club is a new club at Clayton High school that was started up by DECA members. The DECA members want to give any student Clayton High School who want to educate others about driver safety the chance to be a part of Project Ignition.
Also this year, DECA members and marketing students taking marketing this semester have formed a partnership with an Occupational Skills class to study marketing and entrepreneurship together.
For November, Clayton High School DECA had several community service projects and fundraisers planned. The Clayton High School DECA chapter collected items for a local girl’s home as a community service project and held the first annual “Rock On, Game On” Video Games Tournament.
Congratulations to Clayton High School DECA for being chosen as the 2008 December North Carolina DECA Chapter of the Month! This is one chapter that is ROCKIN', and not to a one hit wonder!
